Explore the Mackay Regions rich historical and cultural past with this self-guided, interactive heritage discovery trail. This experience is designed so you can immerse yourself and interact with Mackays interesting past, either by using the platform to conduct your own self-guided heritage trail or you can view your content online if you are not in the Mackay Region or you would prefer to access in doors or even in the classroom. The Mackay City Centre and Waterfront Heritage Trail is offered as a mobile first or website based platform, allowing you to access our regions history from anywhere you may be or take yourself on a self-guided tour with the device you already have in your hand!
Adventure into the past in the footsteps of our locals with this self-guided walking trail to discover Mackays interesting past. Along the way you will have the opportunity to interact with the historic buildings on the trail, or if viewing online you will have access to a number of fantastic multi-media pieces. You'll hear stories from locals, compare photos and footage from yesteryear and read the tales of our past. During the Heritage Festival a number of businesses and organisations along the trail can allow access to locations not usually accessible to the public. Want to recreate the famous 1918 Cyclone image? Step inside the doors of Old Town Hall and the friendly volunteers will allow you to stand out on the balcony and many more fantastic opportunities along the way.
